Voluptuous Vegan 2 months agoSooooooo amazing 😍 This gym seriously checks all the boxes. First off—really awesome classes here. Like, not just filler classes… actual good workouts that leave you feeling it. The space itself is super CLEAN with a really nice aesthetic. It’s big, doesn’t feel cramped, and there’s a huge variety of options—everything from classes to hydro massage, red light, tanning, etc. You can literally make a whole self-care day out of being here. I’m obsessed with the Studio Red class—major asskicker in the best way. Total sweat factory 🔥 you will walk out drenched but feeling accomplished. Today I tried the new infrared heated yoga flow with Keli and wow… complete heaven. Such a good balance of challenging and relaxing. I left feeling reset. No need to lug around a mat ! they have plenty to use & assigned numbered spots for you and your mat - Huge perk. Honestly, this place just hits. Good sound systems throughout , Great energy, great workouts, and tons of options depending on your mood. The only 2 downsides is the parking lot , Horrible location & unsafe at night . Do not leave valuables in your car . The other is the staff , they are EXTREMELY pushy and salesy so be warned if that’s not your jam .
Alexander Katz 2 months agoYou have to take the good with the bad. The price is very low, which is paid for by fairly complex rules about cancellation. Essentially your gym membership is subsidized by people who are no longer members who are paying cancellation fees and finance charges. And, you’re getting a very large, fully stocked weight room and cardio area for that very low price which can’t really be beaten in Tucson or anywhere really. However, that low price means you’re getting a gym that feels like a YMCA. You have every income bracket, and that means you have unhoused people and some people with serious mental health issues. This shows up a bit in the cleanliness of the locker rooms, pool, and overall facility which isn’t great. I wouldn’t swim in the pool, or use the steam room. I’ve routinely seen people leave the sauna, covered in sweat and hop in the pool or swim the pool with clothing and even shoes on. Using the locker room is occasionally a bit difficult to stand with loose trash, cigarettes butts, and dirty floors. Is it terrible? No. But it’s not a premium product by any means. I’ve had occasional issues with crazy people threatening me. The gym staff is pretty blasé about it, and you have to chalk that up to Tucson’s quirkiness to a degree. Maybe I’m a sheltered yuppie but I don’t think it’s normal to randomly threaten to kill other gym members. Overall, I think the staff is made up by very nice young people. I really can’t fault anyone I’ve interacted along the employees. I think my greater issue is with the corporate management of the gym. The real trend is towards lowering the quality of the standard product and getting more upcharges for personal training, group fitness classes etc. Gym equipment is starting to wear out, barbells bent, deadlifting platforms full of divots, etc. while they’ve built new group fitness rooms. I understand the economics though, it’s still a good value proposition. The final issue is the “music.” The corporate management has turned the speakers up to a crazy level while tuning the EQ to massively boost bass. This results in the gym sounding like a factory floor with awful banging and clicking noises from the speakers. The only music they play is hip hop, but as a fan of hip hop music broadly, I would say high quality noise cancelling headphones are necessary to work out at VASA at this point. But, amortize the cost of $200 earbuds vs. the cheap membership fee and it works out fine.
Remztheninja 4 months agoMy partner and I visited using a trial pass and were greeted at the front desk upon arrival. When I mentioned that I had previously held a VASA membership (in a different city), we were informed that prior members are typically not eligible for a trial pass. However, the staff member kindly made an exception so I could explore whether I wanted to rejoin. I appreciated the flexibility, though the interaction itself felt somewhat impersonal. While membership options were briefly explained, we were not given a tour or orientation of the facility. Although I’ve had a membership before, I had never visited this specific location, so I was unfamiliar with the layout, equipment placement, and amenities. A quick walkthrough would have been very helpful. We visited around 3 p.m. on a weekday and expected some level of busyness, but the gym felt extremely crowded. Many machines and workout areas were occupied, which limited our ability to fully utilize the equipment and amenities. The equipment itself is modern and well-maintained, and it was great to see new equipment being installed during our visit. However, the layout felt somewhat congested. The locker rooms were not clearly marked and seemed tucked behind or between equipment areas, making them difficult to locate without guidance. Additionally, some machines were positioned very close together, which made it challenging to move comfortably or stretch without being overly cautious of surrounding equipment. Ultimately, due to the crowd levels and lack of orientation, we decided to leave earlier than planned because we weren’t able to fully enjoy the experience. With improved onboarding for first-time visitors and better flow throughout the space, this location could offer a much stronger overall experience.
kelly Ricard 6 months agoI just did a studio red class 6:00 am this morning and the instructor was great. She asked me my name and then called me by my name the whole entire time. It was a good workout and I really like the price of the Vasa Fitness. The bathrooms are clean people wipe down the machines. I got this video of the guy doing a good workout and it was a little intimidating though.
Avi a month agoThere’s literally a dude spinning around with knives practicing knife combat on the warmup area and oh look a man in a full balaclava just walked in awesome. But at least there’s four employees chatting at the front desk doing nothing! Good for them, this is super safe and comfortable gym for women 👍
