Tamir Bermann 5 months agoFitness SF Transbay is an excellent gym — very well equipped, spacious, and always super clean. The staff is friendly and welcoming, and the atmosphere is respectful with a great crowd of people. Free towels and very nice showers are a big plus and make workouts even more convenient. For the price, this gym offers outstanding value. The location in the Financial District is very central and easy to access, which is perfect for fitting workouts into a busy schedule. I genuinely enjoy training here. If they had a sauna, it would be absolutely perfect, but even without it, this is already a top-quality gym that I highly recommend.
Richard Valdez 3 months agoThere’s a saying that really stayed with me this year: “If you don’t use it, you lose it.” And honestly, I lived that reality. During the pandemic, I gained about 40 pounds and started experiencing joint pain—to the point where some days I could barely walk. It was a wake-up call. That’s when I joined Fitness SF. Little by little, with patience and consistency, I began rebuilding my health. What truly changed everything for me were the yoga classes. They brought me back to myself. Today, I feel flexible, limber, and—most importantly—pain-free. I now consistently attend Marc’s Hatha yoga classes every Tuesday and Thursday, and Cyrus’s Vinyasa classes every Monday and Wednesday. Marc is an exceptional instructor, and I’m especially grateful that my very first yoga class was with him. He is patient, attentive, and intentional about making his routines beginner-friendly. He offers thoughtful, friendly corrections to ensure poses are done properly—something that not only builds confidence but also helps prevent injuries. These classes have become an essential part of my routine—and my recovery. Beyond the classes, the Transbay location has been exceptional. The staff are incredibly accommodating and genuinely helpful, which makes a big difference when you’re starting from zero. The facility itself is large, clean, and very well maintained. The equipment is always in great condition, and they’ve recently added high-tech eGym machines that elevate the entire workout experience. And when it’s time to recover, they even have a dedicated recovery room with several massage chairs—something I’ve come to truly appreciate after a good workout. It really is true: you have to use every part of your body—move it, stretch it, strengthen it—because if you don’t, you risk losing it. Thank you, Fitness SF, for being such a supportive and life-changing gym.
William Salit 3 months agoThis review is about a specific yoga class. I’ve been practicing yoga for quite a long time now, and I’ve come to feel it’s rare to find that instructor who gracefully combines deep knowledge, the skill to teach well, and the ability to bring their unique selves to class and be fully present. What a joy it is to find Marc Morozumi’s class at Fitness SF! Marc is all of that: I love the open-hearted way he meets and knows each student and instructs for all levels of experience by giving clear, thoughtful cueing, and suggesting modifications. His sequences manage to feel intuitive, occasionally surprising, and just complex enough to keep us nicely alert. I leave each class feeling calm and energized, and well worked out. Marc teaches this class in an odd time slot: Tuesdays at noon. I started with him when the class was just 1 or 2 students and watched it grow over the weeks to a steady 10ish (for now). The folks who have found this gem of a class keep coming back; quite the accomplishment for a midday slot downtown! And an added note: I’ve been a member of Fitness SF for many years, and I clearly remember a time—pre-COVID—when the gym, especially The Castro location, had such a strong yoga program that I knew dozens of members who had joined only to take those classes. And why wouldn’t they? They had all the high quality yoga they wanted every month for less than the cost of 3 or 4 classes at one of the yoga studios, and the choice of instructors that was every bit as good. Fitness SF has been slowly rebuilding their group exercise program since then, and I hope they see the opportunity they have here. With instructors the caliber of Marc, more classes, and marketing that targeted the SF yoga community, they’d be well on the way to a total win-win for members and for the gym.
Jon Leech 3 months agoThe Transbay gym of Fitness SF is simply AWESOME - and the Yoga Classes are amazing! I have been working out at this gym for about 5 years, and have enjoyed the abundance of cardio machines (there has never been an instance where I could not find an open machine), excellent variety of weight machines, and overwhelming volume of free weights! The recovery spa (with multiple massage machines) is amazing as well. But it was not until about February of this year that I began to take advantage of probably the best resource here - Yoga classes! The classes are included in the membership, and they are NOT just so-so, kinda good, take them because they are included. I attended my first class with Mark in late February, and realized quite quickly that he deliveries guidance for every level of experience for participants. He offers gentle corrections for poses, and supportive encouragement throughout class. And he adjusts the practice based upon the level of experience he perceives of the participants of that session. Mark has an evening class on Thursday which is a nice way to wind down after a long work day. He also has a lunch class on Tuesday. I sometimes struggle to get to the Tuesday class, but I’ve adjusted my schedule to get half of my workday done before class; and I have come to realize that following class, I’ve removed the clenching of my neck and shoulders, and sharpened my focus to tackle the other half of my work day much more successfully than skipping the yoga session! The gym also offers Monday and Wednesday evening Yoga classes with Cyrus, also a great instructor. And an outdoor class at Salesforce Park on Friday at noon (Mark). Try them out!
